When a tooth cannot be saved, prompt removal decreases the chance of worsening infection, eases or prevents pain and helps to protect your overall oral health. At Longmont Oral, Facial & Implant Surgery we strive to make every extraction as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Your comfort, safety, and future smile are always our top priorities.

Meet Your Oral Surgeons

Board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons Dr. Andrus and Dr. Howard perform thousands  of extractions each year, from broken molars to impacted canines. Using 3D imaging and modern instruments, they remove teeth precisely while preserving surrounding bone and soft tissue.

When a Tooth May Need to Come Out

  • Severe decay or fracture beyond repair
  • Advanced periodontal (gum) disease
  • Infection not responding to root-canal therapy
  • Orthodontic crowding
  • Preparation for dentures or implants
  • Impacted or partially erupted teeth causing pain or pathology

A digital panoramic X-ray or cone-beam CT scan lets us see root shape, nerve location, and bone quality before planning your procedure.

Caring for Your Mouth After Extraction

  • Keep gauze in place for the first 30–60 minutes to control bleeding.
  • Apply an ice pack in 20-minute intervals for the first day.
  • Start gentle salt-water rinses after 24 hours to keep the sites clean.
  • Stick to soft foods such as smoothies, yogurt, and scrambled eggs for several days.
  • Avoid straws, carbonated drinks, and smoking, which can dislodge the protective clot and lead to dry socket.

Recovery can vary, but most patients feel ready to return to work or school the following day.

If you need a dental implant, bridge, or denture to replace the extracted tooth, we coordinate closely with your dentist so timing and healing stay on track.
