For some patients, improving breathing and airway function may involve procedures that expand the upper jaw or release restricted tissue. At Longmont Oral, Facial & Implant Surgery, our surgeons provide select airway-related procedures in collaboration with orthodontists, pediatric providers, and other specialists.

MARPE / SARPE

  • Surgically Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion (SARPE) and minimally invasive techniques such as Miniscrew Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion (MARPE) are procedures that help widen the upper jaw.
  • These procedures may be considered when orthodontic treatment alone cannot create enough space for proper alignment and airway support.
  • Our surgeons work closely with your orthodontist to ensure surgical care integrates seamlessly with your orthodontic treatment plan.

Frenuloplasty

  • A frenuloplasty is a minor procedure that releases tight tissue under the tongue (commonly called a tongue-tie) or in other areas of the mouth.
  • This can improve mobility, support oral development, and, in some cases, reduce airway restrictions.

Our role is to evaluate each patient carefully, explain when these procedures may be beneficial, and provide surgical care that supports long-term health and function. As with all treatment in our practice, the focus is on collaboration, clear communication, and tailoring care to each individual’s needs.
