The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) connect the jaw to the skull and allow everyday movements such as speaking, chewing, and yawning. When these joints or the surrounding muscles don’t function properly, patients may experience pain, limited movement, or other symptoms commonly referred to as temporomandibular disorder (TMD).

At Longmont Oral, Facial & Implant Surgery, we evaluate patients with TMJ-related concerns and provide appropriate initial treatment and direction.  In many cases conservative treatments offer adequate relief of symptoms. Some cases are more complex and may require a multidisciplinary approach.

Common TMJ Symptoms

  • Jaw pain or soreness, especially with chewing or talking
  • Clicking, popping, or grinding sounds in the joint
  • Limited jaw movement or locking
  • Headaches or discomfort around the ear and temple

Approach to Care

Many TMJ concerns can improve with non-surgical approaches such as rest, changes in diet, physical therapy, or oral appliances. Our surgeons provide an initial assessment, review possible causes, and guide patients toward the most appropriate next steps.

Our team combines clinical precision with compassionate communication, helping patients understand their options and feel supported in finding relief.
