What is BOTOX®?
At Longmont Oral, Facial and Implant Surgery, Drs. Howard and Andrus are happy to provide BOTOX® treatment for our patients. BOTOX® is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the world and it can effectively reverse the signs of aging by minimizing fine lines and wrinkles on the face. Those pesky crow’s feet, deep worry lines and furrows between the eyebrows can now become a thing of the past as BOTOX® relaxes the facial muscles and rejuvenates the face.
The BOTOX® Procedure
Prior to treatment, your medical history, risks, and benefits of the procedure will all be reviewed to ensure your safety and optimal results. Digital images may also be taken to help illustrate the treatment effects and identify what areas could use treatment.
BOTOX® is administered through tiny injections just below the skin of the target areas. The injections may cause a small sting but are typically described as painless. The active ingredient in BOTOX® essentially paralyzes the muscles of the face just below the skin preventing them from contracting. This effect then relaxes the overlying skin and wrinkles and creases of the face are minimized if not erased.
The effects from BOTOX®, however, are not permanent and may need to be repeated every 4-6 months in order to maintain its effects. Long term use, however, has been shown to cause longer-lasting results of each treatment. Also, those over the age of 65 may not experience as dramatic of results and may require more frequent treatments.
While BOTOX® is extremely effective for reducing expression lines, it is not effective in lifting or tightening sagging skin caused by aging or in filling deep folds around the mouth.
AfterCare
Another beautiful thing about BOTOX® treatment is that there is no downtime! Most return to daily activities immediately after their procedure. Slight bruising may occur but quickly fades. Temporary weakness of nearby muscles or rarely an eyelid droop may occur. If this happens after your procedure, do not hesitate to call our Longmont office so Dr. Andrus or Dr. Howard can address it right away. BOTOX® treatments are entirely reversible and so, thankfully, any side effect is only temporary.
